Hey team if you are new around these parts as I have had an influx of new visitors welcome to another Disdain for Plebs rant. A theme I stick with here at Son of the Red Wolf is that of CRUSHING VICTIMHOOD.
I used to think of myself as a pathetic little victim. We all do. We all run our victim narratives in our heads and make up our life stories of ‘Oh the world is so unfair to me’. To this day you and I will have a voice inside our heads making excuses for our own inaction and failures.
Before you wait to catch the Strugglecity bus to Lifecanbeabitchville here’s a strategy that I ground myself with daily. I know affirmations and talking to yourself in the mirror is crazy hippie talk.
Crazy or not… It works.
When you wake go to the nearest mirror, look yourself dead in the eye, and speak these words.
‘I am in control. I have ownership of my life. I will make it be.’
Because when it all comes down to it, you are.
You are solely responsible for your life. You are the one who controls it. You are what you do. You are how you react.
With a victim mindset we can come up with a billion reasons to quit.
And the world will let you off easy… Oh it’s ok. It wasn’t meant to be. Go easy on yourself.
Guess what, NOTHING IS MEANT TO BE!
You think that the Martin Luther King Jr. was meant to be?!
You think that Bill Gates and Microsoft was meant to be?!
You think that Genghis Khan was meant to be?!
You think that the battle of Thermopylae was meant to be?!
You think that Tony Robbins climbing and crawling out of poverty and abuse was meant to be?!
YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT BE!
What separates the victims from the victors is that the victors take ownership of their responsibility.
Victors are honest with themselves about their effort.
They don’t lie to themselves about how this and that stopped them from their goals.
They don’t blame outside influences when they don’t get the result they aim for.
They don’t complete a single task and rest on their Laurels!
They don’t say things like ‘It’s not my fault!’
INSTEAD they take responsibility for their actions or lack thereof pick themselves up dust off and fix the issue!
In the words of Rocky Balboa “THAT’S HOW WINNING IS DONE!”
So back to you in the mirror.
Back to affirmations and this heeby geeby hippie shit.
Look yourself in the eyes and ask yourself did you do everything in your power to achieve what you wanted to yesterday?
If you are honest with yourself. Completely 100% honest and you did… Then you are delusional.
Nobody does. Nobody is perfect. You can have good productive days, yes. You can have fucking awesome days.
But there is always more that you could have done.
Only you can recognise that and only you can take actionable steps towards your goals.
VICTIMHOOD IS MENTAL.
Your mindset is something that you control. You are the one who decides whether or not you are a victim or a victor.
YOU ARE IN CONTROL!
Not your parents, not your job, not your friends, not your circumstances, not your government… You.
I know it’s so easy to say ‘but I didn’t want that”, ‘I wasn’t in control of that’, ‘she left me and I wasn’t in control’, ‘they fired me I didn’t have a choice’…
I get it. I’ve been there. Hell I am there in situations now.
The truth of the matter is that somehow your decisions in the past and their results have led to what you are experiencing now.
So you are not a result of your circumstances.
You are a result of the choices you have made.
You are the result of your past life. The old you. The one who made those decisions.
This is not to beat yourself up about past decisions. Now you recognise this you can decide not to be that victim. You can decide on the actions you take from here on out.
The biggest lie you are sold is that you aren’t in control.
Everyone gives up because of this lie.
We see a task, we see a dream, we see a vision and we think ‘no, that’s not for me’
‘There is no way I can do that! That wasn’t meant for victims like me.”
And that there ladies and gentlesirs is the difference between VICTIMS and VICTORS…
I have touched on stoicism and stoic philosophy previously. A philosophy of whatever comes I will weather it. Whatever the circumstances I am in control of my actions. Whatever happens I am not a victim.
“The Devil Whispered: You can’t handle the storm”
“The Warrior replied: I am the Storm”
So take ownership. Take responsibility. Take control.
Get freaky and stare at yourself in the mirror.
