“I’m fine in the fire, I feed on the friction” #goals
This week my news feed blew up around this stupid story. You probably saw it. The vegan girl who died climbing Everest. (It is the internet so it might not even be real). And everyone was taking the piss out of vegans.
Yeah I get that it was for a laugh. You should laugh at everything you can. Not everything needs to be so serious. My friends and I had a cheeky giggle. I mean who doesn’t love laughing at others misfortune? – Jeez what a morbid way to start a post Matt
You should laugh at your own misfortunes too.
I ain’t no vegan either so I’m not triggered by this, it just made me think…
What am I doing with my life? What are you doing with your life? How are all these ‘keyboard warriors’ going to die?
Old and delirious. Remembering the good old days. Surrounded by their ‘loved ones’ who just want their inheritance.
Not to glorify death, more to glorify mountain climbers, go-getters, and courageous people outside of their comfort zones. You can’t grow as a human being stuck behind the keyboard with only criticism of others to contribute. (Little bit of healthy self-deprecation)
Wouldn’t you rather go out climbing Everest?
I know I would.
So where is this going?
Outside… Of my comfort zones.
The more you put yourself in uncomfortable positions the more comfortable you will feel. It is a simple, timeless confidence builder. I imagine life as a Hero’s journey, based off of Joseph Campbell’s storytelling framework.
The hero has to be uncomfortable, they have to go through their challenges and temptations to experience transformation.
If you aren’t transforming, evolving, and adapting you are a waste of oxygen. Another pack of wolves will take what is yours or what could’ve been.
I advocate pushing yourself in all areas of life. I’ve promoted putting yourself under pressure to perform. I endorse experimenting with new systems and variables. I suggest following controversial figures and opening your mind to dangerous opinions. Since I’ve been back from Bali I’ve slipped into a comfortable routine. It is no longer an uncomfortable environment. I need to find a new pressure system. Put my hand in the fire. Experience a new revelation. Bleed a little.
So here I will state my word. My bond.
This week I have added some extras to my routine, some new pressures. One of them to make a blog post everyday of the week so expect some updates.
What are you going to do?
Ask yourself, when was the last time you did something out of your comfort zone? How do you want to die?
*Insert lame motivational rant*
Go find that fire and hold yourself against the flame.
Get out there and get uncomfortable damn it!
